The UEFA Champions League


                Futbol champions league is the biggest football league in the world. Well besides the World Cup. But it is the best international football club competition. It is a competition started in 1955 by UEFA. At first it was called European Champion Clubs’ Cup, and it was renamed to Champions League in 1992. It started out as a knockout tournament and a country could have only one club competing. Now it consists of a group phase and several other stages. And now the league is accepting four teams from Europe’s strongest leagues.
                Nowadays futbol champions league is the most viewed sports event in the world. The Champions League final draws over 178 million viewers worldwide. This shows what a phenomenon the league and football in general really is. The tournament is made up of several stages. It begins in July with three qualifying rounds that feature a knockout format and a round of play-offs. The ten teams that manage to survive join the twenty two seeded teams and the group stage starts. There are eight groups that consist of four teams each. The teams that get in the first two places advance to another knockout phase. The final match takes place in May and the winning team qualifies for FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
                The current futbol champions league is Barcelona. But the league has been dominated by Real Madrid. It has won on nine occasions, including the first five editions of the league, and up until today Spanish Clubs have won it the most times with 13 wins. 21 teams have won in the league so far, and 12 of them have won more than once. Since the format change in 1992 not one team has managed to win the title consecutively. Besides fame and renown, the winning team also gets 9 million euros.
