A few Garden Design Tips for the Amateur Garden Designer

Good landscape garden design can be likened to the composition of a painting. A painting usually has a main point of interest, and the rest of the picture is there to either enhance that point of interest or the make the setting clearer and stronger. So the main goal of having a garden design is to put certain elements together that will create a distinct look. That’s why when choosing a design for your garden it is very important to see the big picture. But you also need to keep your eyes on the details.
Landscape garden design might seem like something you would need professional help to do. But it’s not. It only takes a little bit of research into the different styles that there are and from there you can decide what you want to go with yourself. Basically you need to make something that looks good to you, and with the theoretical background to back you up, you could come up with some pretty amazing designs. You will also need to look up on the prices and calculate how much the materials will cost you.
There are a lot of styles to choose from. You can go with a completely original landscape garden design, but until you have some experience it is best to try and implement a style that has already been established, with a few personal touches of course. Some of the more common styles are: the water garden style, the Asian style, the formal, the informal style, cottage style, gravel and a contemporary style. Each style has its own unique little thing. In the Asian style you will find a big emphasis on water features, like small ponds or rivers for example. Studying these style will lead to a better understanding of how garden design works.
