Soccer and the Television

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Every four years, when the FIFA World Cup comes around, a ninth of the global population tunes in to watch soccer on TV. And when the World Cup isn’t running there are a lot more things to look out for. The UEFA Champions League is one of them. 32 of the world’s best teams, that have the best players playing for them, face off in a televised event that is popular and viewed from all over the globe.
Watching soccer on TV is the traditional way to do it. But if you want to watch a lot more soccer, you have to go online. Online you will find matches from all over the world. While your local sports channel may only broadcast your own national league and major leagues, online you will find matches being broadcast from all leagues. Or you can use the internet to watch the matches that your TV channel does not broadcast when there are two games running at the same time. This way you will not lose any action from either match.
Soccer on TV brings the biggest audience every four years. You might say in fact that the sport is what it is today because of the television. A huge portion of the teams’ and leagues’ revenues comes from the advertising done on TV. So the superhuman dream teams that we see today owe a lot to the television. Of course many players do it for the sport, but knowing that being good means that you will be set for life certainly helps. Other sports that do not have such good coverage are less popular. Is it in the sport, or is it the fact that the sport does not reach enough people? That is the question.
