The New World of Celebrity News

Celebrities are some times better known for their personal life than their career. Take Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Tara Reid for example. Sure Tara Reid and Lindsay Lohan starred in some movies, but Paris Hilton has no talent what so ever. The only reason they are famous is because they are in the public eye being crazy. They are known for their party nature, their clashes with the police, and paparazzi pictures. That’s why a lot of site feature celebrity news today.
It used to be that magazines had the exclusive scoop on celebrity news stories. But celebrity news today spread online. And they spread very fast and very wide. There are sites dedicated to this and once a news story reaches them, it is quickly spread by its readers through social media. This means that the embarrassing picture of Jennifer Lopez wearing no make-up and looking worse than her dog will spread quickly, but that it will also be forgotten in a couple of weeks. And for the avid celebrity news devourer it means that they get their fix more often. All of the big magazines that cover celebrity stories have moved online, and the competition is fierce, because the last one to the story gets left out very fast.
The way we get celebrity news today reflects the technological change that the internet has brought upon us. Information travels faster than ever, and this means that saturation occurs. The average internet user is desensitized to a lot of the stuff that would make people drop their jaws just twenty or thirty years ago. This has spawned the category of celebrities that are famous just for being famous. Celebrities that are aware that drama sells, and that bad publicity is not even better than no publicity, but than good publicity as well.
