How to Choose the Best House Paints

Making a house into a home takes some work. Starting with the furniture and the arrangement all the way to the house paints you apply determines how your house will feel. And when it comes down to improving the feel of the house having the right paint job makes a huge difference. Knowing the basics of house paintings will help you immensely, if you plan to do it on your own. Sure it takes more time and effort than just hiring a professional to do it, but the money you will save and more importantly the satisfaction you will get from knowing that you’ve made your home beautiful will be worth it.
Nowadays there is a large variety of house paints to choose from. It might seem like a daunting task trying to figure out what type of paint you need, but once you get right down to it and have set your mind on what the patterns and the design will look like it will be really easy. First of all you will need to know that there are two types of bases of paint to choose from: water-based and oil-based (or solvent based). Oil-based paints dry slowly, but are very hard to remove and water based paints dry fast but are not very resistant to weather or sunshine, so you should use oil-based paints for the exterior and water-based paints for the interior.
When choosing house paints you should have an idea what the sheen factor is. A sheen factor is a measurement for how well the paint reflects light. A lesser sheen factor means that the paint is susceptible to staining. Use high sheen paints for doors, cabinets, and other areas that are going to be subject to abuse, use paints with a medium sheen in rooms where there will be a lot of humidity, and use a low sheen paint for living rooms, bed rooms and other rooms where you want a matter color.
